Konami Europe Goes Mobile
|
 |
Konami of Europe has announced the creation of a specific mobile phone games division as it looks to bring conversions of key brands to mobile users in 2005.
Konami has previously enjoyed phenomenal success with its Japanese mobile game portals. Launched in 1999, portals such as 'Konami Net DX' have distributed over 200 titles, and began providing content to Taiwan and Hong Kong in January 2003. It also expanded its operations to the US in November 2003 and its move into the European sector is in line with Konami's aims of becoming a global content provider.
As a video game publisher, Konami is recognized as a leading producer of quality interactive entertainment software. It has produced key brands such as Metal Gear Solid, Pro Evolution Soccer or Castlevania and has been active in Europe since the 80s. Its Mobile Games business will cover 46 independent European territories, and will also be responsible for the Middle East, Africa and Oceania.
The initial collection of titles will include console classics such as Frogger, Castlevania, and Silent Scope, which will initially be available to Vodafone live! users in 19 countries. Other titles are also available on i-modeTM platforms through different operators in the Netherlands, France and Australia.
Konami's new Mobile Games Sales team will be based in Konami of Europe's Frankfurt HQ and is headed up by Dae-Yul Choi and Florian Stronk. Both have been recruited as Account Managers, Mobile Games and will report to Kunio Neo, President of Konami of Europe. "We are looking forward to further improving our distribution network in our territories, thereby providing our customers with an exciting game experience through multiple, easy to access distribution channels," said Kunio Neo, President of Konami of Europe.
