Most people take their smartphones with them everywhere, and are already earning points, badges, and props for checking in to the office or their favourite restaurant, and sharing thoughts about the beers they're drinking, the workouts they're doing at the gym, or the music they're listening to. Why not go one step further? Achievement Life is a new "game" that will be released next month by Naoplay. It will allow you to create, earn, and comment on achiements, based on real life. So you can earn achievement points for buying your first laptop, going surfing, or trying out a new hair do. It's a nice idea, and it will be a free download for the iPhone and Android, so it's worth checking out. I'm dubious about the quality of any crowdsourcing type system, though. I've always joked about getting achievement points for paying bills and getting work done, so this game could well be a great motivator that will encourage people to do important stuff, and also try some interesting new experiences. Or, it could fill up with junk achievements that people create for each other in order to game the system. I'll be watching out for Achievement Life on the app stores over the next couple of weeks. Hopefully the voting system will encourage the interesting achievements to bubble to the top. |
