Game Boxart Rift: Planes of Telara is Trion's entry into the already rather crowded world of Fantasy MMORPGs, and quite an entry it is. Rift advertises itself by saying "We're not in Azeroth any more", however it would be hard to believe that statement if you w

Abertay University Skillset Accredited

The University of Abertay Dundee received news that its new master of science (MSc) degree course in computer games technology has been formally accredited by Skillset, the sector skills council for the creative industries.

This means that Abertay now holds three out of only eight accreditations for computer games courses so far awarded by Skillset across the UK. Abertay is the only university to have multiple courses accredited by Skillset, and is already a Skillset Media Academy in its own right the only one in Scotland.

The new MSc course welcomed its first students in September, and is taught by Abertay's new Institute of Arts, Media and Computer Games. The Institute houses the UK's first centre for excellence in computer games education, established earlier this year with the help of a 3 million grant from the Scottish Government.

Earlier this month, Abertay secured further grants totalling 3.5 million from the UK Government and the European Union which, along with 1.5 million from Abertay's own resources, will be invested in creating a comprehensive business support framework for start-up and early-stage SMEs in the computer games industry.

This latest win for Abertay adds weight to Dundee's established position as the UK home for the best in computer games talent.
