CCP Talk About Eve At GameHorizon
|
 |
Thor Gunnarsson of CCP was at GameHorizon this month, talking about User Generated Content, Emergent Gameplay, and other buzz words which basically amount to ways that players can become more involved with their games.
The most interesting things he mentioned were some new tools and additions to the game - he touched on the 'walking in stations' thing, but unfortunately there were no new pictures or videos, so if you've seen the ambulation trailer you haven't missed anything.
He mentioned Cosmos - a new Eve Social Networking tool - so you can network with other avatars. I could imagine that being a pretty useful way for industrial types, and traders of contract only goods to market their wares.
Another thing mentioned was the Eve Neocom, which gives you access to some of the features of Eve on the move. Certainly the ability to change skills on the move would be nice, although I'm not sure I'd have the discipline to stick with long skills if I had the ability to change my skills while away from home!
The final tool was Eve Lite - a messenger client, that's a bit more discrete than the Neocom - aimed at people who want to do Eve related stuff like check the market, or chat with their corporation while they're at work. Sounds cool to me :)
After the talk, I asked Mr Gunnarsson about the Council of Stellar Management - the council members had been flown to Iceland that day to meet in person for the first time. The CSM is an interesting experiment in managing and interacting game communities - allowing elected players to give feedback directly to the game companies, and it's certainly generated a lot of attention and feedback. At the time, Mr Gunnarsson couldn't comment too much as to how they felt the project was going - it's still early days, but CCP believe that the project will work well. If it does, it may set an interesting precedent for other games.
