A Look At Legends of Norrath: Oathbreaker
Spacer

Legends of Norrath: Oathbreaker is the latest update to the Legends of Norrath trading card game. The Oathbreaker update includes a new set of cards, and completes the four-set story arc. The update launched on June 19th, and is the last update before the LoN $100,000 world Championship, which will be held ad Gen Con Indy this August.

Legends of Norrath is a very in-depth trading card game, and Oathbreaker adds a lot to that depth. There are more than 250 new cards to play with, including 210 cards in the base set, 10 cards which are rewards for completing the new scenarios, three random rares, 16 new quests, and some new loot cards for both EverQuest, and EverQuest 2.

There's a new raid - the Antechamber of Fate, where up two four players can team up to take on the dragon turtle, Chel'Drak.

The new loot cards range from housing items - with some pretty nice housing rent status reduction stats, to cloaks, new mount whistles, titles, and some cool 'just for fun' things such as the 'Gnomeland Securities MAD', and makeover kits.

The new scenarios provide a decent challenge even for experienced players - the first couple are a gentle introduction to the new cards, but as you progress through the scenarios things get a little more difficult. New tactics such as 'Charge' add an extra element to the game, as does the ability to re-link cards.

The card rewards for completing new scenarios are pretty cool, with items that such as 'Robe of Ishvamal' and 'Wayfarers Bread' available in the first chapter. The robes can be exerted to deal one damage to all units at a quest, and the bread can be used to heal a unit, or your avatar.

Every time I've looked at the lobbies - for both casual games and tournaments, there was a decent number of players looking for a game, with more than 100 prospective opponents available even during the quieter times of the day. Some of these players are just checking out the game because of the Living Legacy promotion – which allows you to come back to Everquest or Everquest 2 for free for a while, if you've ever played the game before. There are a lot of serious players around too, however, so whatever your skill level you should have chance of a good match.

Sony Online Entertainment have a lot of experience with card games, and they have announced plans for TCG addons to some of their other MMOs. If the way Legends of Norrath has evolved recently is anything to go by, I'm looking forward to seeing their offerings for the rest of their MMO stable.
