Alienware ALX CrossFireX Desktop
|
 |
Alienware has launched the ALX CrossFireX desktop computer, which used ATI CrossFireX, and is their first ever quad GPU gaming solution, offering DirectX 10 support, of course, to ensure you can enjoy the latest and greatest games, and even power-hungry monsters like Crysis shouldn't make it break a sweat.
The Alienware ALX CrossFire X uses two ATI Radeon HD 3870 X2 graphics cards, with 1GB graphics memory each. The cards have 2 GPUs on board, enabling the quad SLI setup.
"Alienware is extreme high-performance PC gaming," said Brian Joyce, Senior Vice President at Alienware," and expectations are never higher than when dealing with the ALX CrossFireX, our most sophisticated desktop system. Adding the awesome power of a quad graphics solution like CrossFireX to the ALX desktop is just one more way Alienware strives to deliver the world’s best PC gaming experience."
Using the Catalyst software, and Windows Vista, you can overclock the GPUs for maximum performance. If overclocking isn't your thing, the auto-configure option will ensure the best balance of speed and stability.
"CrossFireX is another example of AMD's continued commitment to technology leadership. With CrossFireX driving the graphics capabilities of such an acclaimed system as the Alienware ALX CrossFireX, together we’re driving The Ultimate Visual Experience for PC gamers" says Rick Bergman, Senior Vice President, AMD's Graphics Product Group. "CrossFireX allows for more immersive gaming than before, giving gamers the ability to play at high resolutions and settings with great performance, along with leading multimedia capabilities for the HD world we live in."
"Alienware chooses only the industry's top innovations to integrate into our award-winning computers," said Diana. "We are confident that with the addition of CrossFireX, Alienware and AMD will continue to shape the field of PC gaming well into the next generation of systems."
You can learn more about the system here - the price is a hefty £3,557 including VAT and delivery. It's intersting to see them opt for a Quad GPU set up from ATI, at a time when NVidia holds a stronger position in the high-end market. Only time, and benchmarks, will tell if it was the right choice.
